With ink presses, the color separation requires 4 special color "plates" to be installed on the press. Then all four colors - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black - must be perfectly aligned. All of this is labor intensive and why you have traditionally had to buy thousands to tens of thousands of prints to make the cost per print economical.
With Digital Printing, the color separation and alignment is done completely on a computer and fed to the Digital Press. Gone are the days when you need to buy several boxes of material to later trip over in your back storage room.
